Tell us about yourself
My name is Alex from One Bag of Dreams. I am a 27-year-old engineer from Germany. After travelling to Bali in 2018, I have been passionate about travel from the offset. My first long-haul trip was in 2018 to Bali, and since then I have travelled to many different countries all over the world. I enjoyed every second. I love nature and exploring. It is my aim to capture fantastic places and moments on camera. That’s why I am travelling all around the world at the moment for more than 2 years.
Why do you travel and look for adventures?
I truly believe that travelling to other countries and witnessing other cultures first-hand is an incredibly important aspect of human life.
What kind of adventures do you look for when you travel?
Whilst travelling I want to see incredible places all around the world. As photography is my passion, I often venture out early in the morning or the evening to catch the best moments with the most epic light at sunrise and sunset. I also love hiking in nature and spotting wild animals.
What’s your go-to travel hack?
My go-to travel hack is definitely to book most things such as accommodation and tours at my destination as it is much cheaper and you will get the best deals there.
Got any gear you can’t travel without?
I can’t trace without my camera to capture all the epic memories and places that I am visiting all around the world.
What destination are you eager to go back to?
I can’t wait to go back to Thailand as it is one of my favourite travel destinations in this world.
How do you stay safe when you’re travelling?
I always Research the current situation of the country that I am about to visit. I try not to go out alone at night in places where I have a bad feeling. Most of the time you can feel when it is about to get unsafe. Also using services such as Uber are help me a lot to get to my destination safely. Also never show your camera gear when it is not necessary and protect your valuables in a money belt. It has also been helpful to me to carry small amounts of money in my pocket so I don’t have to reach for my money belt too often in public.
What’s the best way to experience a destination like a local?
One of the best ways for me to experience a destination like a local is by making friends with the locals. They will be able to show you all of their favourite places. Another great way is to stay in one place for a longer period of time to be able to see places that aren’t necessarily the most famous ones of a destination. But oftentimes these are definitely worth a visit and more likely to be less frequented by tourists.
What’s your favourite word in another language?
My favourite word in another language is ‘Mariposa’ in Spanish which means Butterfly.
When and where are you next travelling?
My next travel destination will be Patagonia in Chile.
