Tell us about yourself
I’m a 28-year-old male who was diagnosed at age 6 with Asperger’s Syndrome (I now simply identify as being Autistic). I have a real interest in travel, and since the age of 19, I’ve traveled (mainly solo) to over 40 countries and lived in 6 of them; the USA, Australia, Japan, Scotland, Greece, and England. I started to document my travels on Instagram during the lockdown, and earlier this year I established a website to share facts, stories, photos, and videos about the places I visit and about my personal experiences as an autistic adult.
Why do you travel and look for adventures?
Travel is a long-term passion for me – I never liked the country I was raised in, and first used it as a means of escape
What kind of adventures do you look for when you travel?
I keep an open mind in my journeys, and I always like to try new things (I do have my limits, however).
What’s your go-to travel hack?
Always research a location thoroughly before travelling there!
Got any gear you can’t travel without?
I always pack my camera gear nowadays, as I love photography.
What destination are you eager to go back to?
Hawaii
How do you stay safe when you’re travelling?
I listen to local advice, I quickly remove myself from explosive situations, I always keep my wits about me/practice common sense, and do my research beforehand
What’s the best way to experience a destination like a local?
Couchsurfing is a good one. It’s cheaper than hotels/hostels and you get to engage with locals (to what degree depends on your host, however)
What’s your favourite word in another language?
森林浴 – forest/green therapy (Japanese – my second language)
When and where are you next travelling?
Bath, England at the start of October
