Why do you travel and photograph your journeys?
For me, landscape photography is a form of mindfulness. Hiking for hours alone in the wilderness or heading out in a thunderstorm and just being in the moment, taking time to set up the shot and waiting and watching. It doesn’t get much better!
What is your favourite thing or item to photograph
Deserts and thunderstorms.
What’s your go-to travel hack?
The best advice I have is to travel as light as possible. If that means bringing one less lens or only having a single camera body, it will make life a whole lot easier!
Got any gear you can’t travel without?
I can’t emphasise how much I use a small flashlight!
What destination are you eager to go back to?
Zion National Park in Utah is insanely spectacular. I’ve only ever been there on my way to another destination, and have always regretted not spending a few days hiking and photographing this place.
How do you stay safe when you’re travelling?
Thoroughly research where you are going and speak with some locals when you get the chance. Knowing the potential risks before starting out is the key.
What’s the best way to experience a destination like a local one?
I find travelling alone often helps. And/or not pre-planning all your activities. It will help force situations where you will interact with locals, use local retail and food locations and potentially get some insider information on the way.
What’s your favourite word in another language?
Learn to say “thank you” in every language!
When and where are you next travelling?
My next travels will be to the USA and Mexico later this year.
